Catasauqua High School football coach Mike McClarin has resigned as head football coach. McClarin lead the Rough Riders for two years and ended his tenure with a record of 1-21. Their only win came at home in 2018 against Wilson Area High School.
When the next coach is officially hired, it will mark the third coach in the last four years. Prior to McClarin, Phil Dorn coached for four years and stepped down in 2017. Dorn ended his tenure at Catasauqua with a record of 9-36.
Sophomore Gabe Toth thought that it would have been best to play one more season in the new league under the direction of McClarin.
“I would have liked to see Coach McClarin stay for one more year and try to win in the new league.”
Next season, the Catasauqua Rough Riders will be a part of the Colonial/Schuykill League football merger that is meant to make football more competitive in northeastern Pennsylvania.
Junior Mason Hess will miss seeing McClarin on and off of the field.
“He cared for every person that wore a jersey, and that’s what I’m going to miss most about him,” said Hess.
CHS athletic director Tom Moll appreciates McClarin’s commitment to his players over the last two years.
“He made the decision to resign, and we thank him for his many hours of dedicated service to the football program,” said Moll.
